Many advantages
On this new, compact Nooteboom ballast trailer six of the seven axles are hydraulically steered. What’s new is that both front axles are counter-steered. As a result the steering characteristics and manoeuvrability are excellent, tyre wear is reduced to a minimum and there is a positive impact on the fuel consumption. Which is further reduced by fitting 385/65R22.5 single tyres. These tyres can be used at 80 km/h with an axle weight of 10 tonnes. Nooteboom continually upgrades their products. In this case the trailer is even easier to operate and the maintenance costs are extremely low. The road performance is outstanding and drivers are delighted with it. With six steered axles, hydropneumatic suspension with 300mm vertical travel and a generous ground clearance this trailer is easy to handle, even on building sites with little manoeuvring space. If preferred, the 7-axle ballast trailer can be equipped with air suspension.
30 years at the top
Nooteboom introduced the 6-axle ballast trailer in 1985. The first one was delivered to Mammoet (formerly: Van Seumeren). The fact that the company was granted certification to drive on the Dutch roads with a total weight of 100 tonnes was due to this concept, specially developed by Nooteboom for the transport of crane ballast. But it didn’t stop there. In the interest of the crane industry Nooteboom has over the years approached various instances in order to get this concept approved throughout Europe. By now it is accepted everywhere, which is also due to the support of ESTA, the leading European Association of Abnormal Road Transport. For the crane companies this means a huge reduction in costs because they need to make fewer trips to transport their ballast. Over the years Nooteboom has delivered hundreds of ballast trailers in most European countries. The programme includes semi-trailers with 4 to 7 axles, with hydraulic steering, air suspension or hydropneumatic suspension, extendible if required. Nooteboom invented the ballast trailer in 1985 and now puts a trailer on the market that has been improved in every way.
There is much interest in the new 7-axle ballast trailer in the Netherlands too as there have been changes in the licensing policy. In just a few months Nooteboom has sold more than 10 trailers of the type OVB-95-07 because of the huge advantages it offers. And they expect a significant increase in demand over the coming months. Both in the Netherlands and Germany.
